 Ex Archbishop of Lagos and highest ranking Catholic clergy in Nigeria; His Eminence, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie clocked 76th biethday today June 16, 2012 and a grand reception was held in his honour at Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos.

Anthony Olubunmi Okogie (born 16 June 1936), Okogie was born to a royal family of Uromi in Edo State. His father was Esan and his mother was Yoruba. Okogie was ordained as a priest on 11 December 1966.In 1971, he was ordained titular Bishop of Mascula and Auxiliary of Oyo, and in 1973 named Archbishop. As Archbishop, Okogie was the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and, from 1994 to 2000, headed the Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria.

According to Canon (body of laws and regulations made or adopted by ecclesiastical authoritylaw). 401 §1- A diocesan Bishop who has completed his seventy-fifth year of age is requested to offer his resignation from office to the Supreme Pontiff, who, taking all the circumstances into account, will make provision accordingly.
